about

This is the CD version of “Half the Battle”, originally a 12" vinyl release of the same name. This release contains 3 original tracks by Machinedrum made after Now You Know, but before Urban Biology. These tracks hover around the aggressive cutup idm/hiphop style Machinedrum is known for. The other 12 tracks are remixes by various Merck artists, ranging from the same aggressive style, to much chiller downtempo, even dark moody tracks. Some highlights are Proem returning to the kungfu cutup of Thanks Very Much, Brothomstates ripping remix anthem that blew the crowd up at Sonar and Phoenix festivals in 2002, and Ilkae comes through with a nice mellow melodic jaunt to round things off. Remixers include: Proem, Brothomstates, Ilkae, Proswell, Lackluster, Xela, Tstewart, Secede, Vim, Esem, Tim Koch, and Syndrone. This Bandcamp version also includes 3 tracks that were on the original Japanese version of this release, additional remixes by Vim, Secede, and Pliant. There are also 2 other remixes done as part of this project, that were included on the Dosage CD (Merck 020) by Oblq and Logreybeam, that you can get on that release. Originally released as limited 2000 edition CD, with selected tracks released across two additional 12" vinyls after the original BA 12". One included a blue Machinedrum poster.

"The glitchy, hip-hop-influenced IDM that Travis Stewart made and released from the age of 19 may seem relatively generic today, but it was highly accomplished—and it put him at the heart of a thriving underground scene. This album on Florida’s Merck label features three of his originals and a swathe of remixes by scene stalwarts like Finns Lackluster and Brothomstates, Australia’s Tim Koch and Type Recordings founder Xela from the UK. As such it’s not just a sign of an emerging talent but a snapshot of a musical moment." -Joe Muggs, when featured on Bandcamp Daily in 2020
